After last season's rather strange and truncated end to the National Hunt season, Brian Hughes broke Richard Johnson's stranglehold of the Jump Jockeys Championship, but could there be a change at the top this season?
Hopefully racing will keep going through the winter months because we could see quite a tussle to see who wins in 20/21. Hughes had already chalked up an incredible 233 rides with 37 winners, almost a hundred more rides than his current nearest pursuer, Paddy Brennan who is just 3 winners adrift of Hughes.
Harry Cobden is currently 5 off the lead, and of course rides for the all powerful Paul Nicholls stable and Harry's strike rate of 26% is impressive. From a financial viewpoint, if you had backed Paddy Brennan on all his mounts this season you would be showing a profit of almost £43 to a level £1 stake.
Previous champion Richard Johnson cannot be ruled out, although he's currently 13 adrift of the leader and is currently showing an awful 12% strike rate.
The odds would suggest that Brian Hughes work rate will prevail, currently he is 4/6 favourite with Skybet with Cobden and Johnson both at 9/4. Paddy Brennan although pushing Hughes all the way is a 25/1 shot and likely to focus on his superb partnership with Fergal O'Brien rather than chasing winners all over the UK.
Good to see young Jonjo O'Neill Jr in the top 6 (surely a future champion?) and marketing dream Bryony Frost is currently showing a profit of over £73 on all rides!
Sadly, injury is never far away from these incredibly brave sporting stars so anything could happen.
