WE LOVE A GAMECHANGER!
Sarina Wiegman certainly qualifies as a Gamechanger! Along with the 23 squad members of the triumphant Lionesses she has made it feel normal to win and enjoy it!
Tactics
She was spot on with her substitutions throughout the tournament and wow did this pay off in the final, with both goals coming from Ella Toone and Chloe Kelly who both started on the bench. She also sent on the wonderful Jill Scott to ensure they were professional in managing the game. The last 5 minutes were a joy to watch as we ran down the clock in the Germans' territory.
Loyalty
It's extremely rare in any tournament for the manager to name an unchanged team in every match. Lots of pundits were clamouring for changes in the semi final and final, but Sarina played a strong loyalty card by putting her faith in the 11 starters. It was also brilliant to see her insist on all her backroom staff share in the glory too.
Winning Mentality
Well, she's done it before! Guiding her native Netherlands to victory in the 2017 Euros and she's clearly brought that winning mentality to England, when we hadn't been able to reach those heights before.
Well done to the FA for making such a bold appointment. Let's hope Sarina and this talented group of footballers can reproduce this form next year in the World Cup, where the
formdable US team will be hot favourites!
