Hiring Managers – 6 serious questions you should ask a Recruiter
December 14th, 2020
Finding the best recruitment partner for your business can be a huge challenge. Here are a few questions you should consider asking to provide reassurance that you are working with an agency that will work closely with you and market your company well to prospective employees.
Remember, big doesn’t always mean best. The larger agencies, even in niche markets, often have very high staff turnover and you don’t want to be dealing with several different recruiters over a matter of months.
So, here are a few questions to ask
1. What experience do you have working in our industry sector?
Obvious really, but you don’t want to be spending valuable time explaining terminology and industry jargon to your recruiter. You should be looking for a recruiter that understands the industry and can ask you relevant questions around the job description.
2. What recent vacancies have you successfully filled in our markets?
A good recruiter will be able to let you know the requirements that the agency has focused on recently and quote the types of businesses and levels of candidates placed. If the recruiter says “let me get back to you,” walk away!
3. How do you find your candidates?
These days it’s really not about plastering ads all over various job sites and sitting back waiting for replies. A mixture of active and passive candidates is how switched-on recruiters will work and, of course, they will have an excellent network community to share the opportunity with.
4. How will you market our opportunity?
This is where it is so important for the hiring line manager or talent/HR professional to spend some time with the recruiter. Good recruiters will totally understand the culture of your business and relate to the types of people who will be the perfect fit. At Recruitment Gamechangers we like to get behind the job specification and get a feel for the ideal person you want to join your business.
5. How much do you really know about your candidates?
There’s nothing more frustrating than asking a question about a candidate and the recruiter clearly doesn’t know the answer. You want a recruiter who is going to make you aware of the remuneration issues, availability and personality of their candidate. It’s our job as recruiters to keep both parties in the loop; communication is key at all stages in the hiring process.
6. What are your fees?
It’s not just about the fee itself, it’s more about what value the recruiter creates. Fees should be considered reasonable for both parties. A tremendous amount of work will go into each project by a committed recruiter and their continued communication and monitoring is key to make the deal happen.
For many HR people, recruitment is just one component of their important role. Here at Recruitment Gamechangers, we believe we have the balance right and our success through difficult times is due to our excellent client and candidate relationships.
